Preparing for vascular surgery in Singapore is not as easy as arriving in the clinic feeling healthy and ready for the procedure. However, it also does not mean things are complicated or should worry you. The key is to be calm, do the necessary steps, and follow my tips on what I did to get ready for my procedure.
STEP #1: CONSULT WITH THE DOCTOR
One does not decide to undergo surgery on a whim because it requires a series of consultations with the doctor and examinations to prove they are suitable for them. In my case, I spent around five meetings (in a period of three months) talking about my upcoming treatment with the vascular surgeon in Singapore. Not only that, but I laid down my concerns to ensure everything went smoothly and safely during the operations.
STEP #2: CONFIRM THE APPOINTMENT
There might be a waiting time between the consultation period and the appointment for your surgical procedure. In this stage, never forget to confirm the schedule a few days or weeks before to ensure you have everything in check. For example, you will ask again the time to make sure you have the right one that suits your schedule or ask the receptionist for a few tips on what to bring for your insurance plan payment. (Tip: Ask everything to avoid getting into problems on the day of the surgery.)
STEP #3: ABIDE BY CLINIC RULES AND REGULATIONS
Clinics have the same atmosphere and activity because they have one purpose: To provide medical services to patients. However, keep in mind the difference in specialisations that might require one to modify their rules. For instance, when I went to the vein clinic in Singapore, I did not know about this particular rule because it was my first time coming across this. No worries because there are signages, bulletins, and sometimes, instructions from the clinic staff. Be attentive when it comes to rules & regulations!
STEP #4: GREET THE DOCTOR AND TALK TO THEM
Greet the doctor with respect and talk to them about the pre-surgical tips and everything else you need to do. Why? That is what I did to help me build a relationship with my doctor. We also knew how to interact with each other and I have always asked about what they will do. In short, there should be constant communication during the procedure.
STEP #5: BE ATTENTIVE
Of course, you want to leave everything to the doctor because you trust them. It is true for most cases because that is what I did to calm myself down, but I also listened to their instructions and made sure to be attentive to everything.
